While on the journey to Mexico, Tessee and his
friends went out hunting. When they
got back to the cave where they were camped, they found Sequoyah.
He was propped against a cave wall. He was dead.
Tessee and his friends buried Sequoyah in the warm sand of Mexico.
They buried him with the silver medal he was given by the Cherokee
Council East, as well as a copy of the syllabary, his life's work.
The lame one will walk no more, but his soul and his contributions will
live forever.
