Home Up Cherokee Government Capital City
|
The
Cherokee had a well-organized government. Each Cherokee village had two
governments, a White Government and a Red Government. The White Government had a Caucasian Chief, and the Red
Government had a Native American Chief.
The Red Chief was in charge of giving advice, planning war parties,
victory dances, spiritual games and all military purposes. But they did not
call the Red Government the Red Government. They called it the Waging War
Government, because they were in charge of all war activities.
The
white leaders got to choose the Red Chief, and were in charge of everything that the
Red Government did not
handle (such as the problems of the city). |
