Colonial people did not have cars, so they traveled in a cart pulled by horses. It mattered how much money you had though, you wouldn't be riding in a gold carriage if you couldn't afford it. People who were rich rode and traveled in a carriage pulled by horses who were carefully groomed. Poor people rode in a cart or a wagon. Times were hard counting with the tea crisis,so you had to ride in what ever you could.
