What Happend if You Got Sick?

In colonial times people did not know as much about medicines as we do now. Herbs, such as Chervil and Hyssop, were said to cure just about anything. Every family grew an herb garden. There were many, many different kinds of herbs. Some made bleeding stop and others helped mind a broken arm.

There were also some people who tied a string of berries of or wolf teeth around a babies neck when they got their first teeth. It was said to stop the hurting.

There were some sickness that herbs could not cure. When this happened a doctor would bleed you. hat was when they cut open a vein in you arm and let blood flow out. If you did sot get well you had been cursed by witches.

Anyone could sell medicine. Some people put water in a fancy bottle. Then, gave it a fancy name, and called it medicine.

As you can see in the Colonial Times people were really not very educated in medical care.
