Meteors are sometimes called falling stars, because they look like miniature stars falling out of the sky.  Yet, meteors are not stars.  Meteors are small rocks that produce no heat or light.  Some people like to call meteors “Fireballs,” because they look like fire in the dull, black sky at night.  There are three different types of meteors:  metallic (made mainly of iron); stony (made mainly of rock) and stony-metallic (made of both rock and iron).
