


There are 6,703 languages that people speak today. In the Americas, there are 1,000 languages that are spoken. People who study languages are called linguists. Linguists record many of the world's languages before they die out. Some people think that when a baby is born it can make sounds of any language. Babies can tell the difference between sounds that are alike in other languages. Adults can't hear those same sounds.
