Civil War

The Civil War was a war that was fought between 1861-1865. The United States was divided into two groups, the North and the South. The North was called the Union, and the South was the Confederacy.

There were several causes for the Civil War. One factor was the South wanted to secede from the United States. The South wanted to become an independent country. Some of the states that were originally in the North had seceded and joined the South. They claimed they had the rights to do so. The war was the worst war ever in America. Family fought against family. An estimated 620,000 soldiers died during the Civil War.
