Florence Nightingale was born on May 12, 1820, in Italy and died on August 13, 1910. She was an English nurse who was dedicated to caring for war victims. She was the founder of modern nursing and a pioneer of sanitation and hygiene.
 
Nightingale had brief nurse training in the early 1850s. This helped when she was in charge of the nurses in the Crimean War. Her help in Turkey and Crimea revolutionized army medical care. Nightingale brought about strict nursing statistics. In 1860, she formed a school for training nurses which became a role model for nurse training. In 1907, she became the first woman entitled to the British Order of Merit.
