IntroductionWhen the statue of Zeus was being built the Greeks thought it was so well built they had decided that it should be one of the seven wonders. How they came to this decision they thought that Zeus had a honor of being a special god that was most powerful.
Zeus Is a StatueZeus is the ruler of all gods. The 40 feet high statue was made out of gold and ivory. His statue was richly decorated on a gold throne. If the statue of Zeus would stand up in the temple his head would go through the roof! The temple was made in 438B.C. It was hand made with a lot of mud and cement rocks just like the Pyramids. In which the temple was very important that they guarded it all day and night. They had very many guards so that no one would not steal the statue of Zeus. Some could get their rest so that they could guard during the day. The guards started to ask how could someone steal the statue of Zeus? It was to heavy to take anyway. So then they started to let people see the statue. Now because of the guards letting people in to see the statue of Zeus it is gone today because of someone setting a fire. The statue of Zeus was destroyed in475A.D. Some of these people beloved that Zeus punished the bad and rewarded the good. According to the Ancient story, Zeus expelled his father and all the other older dynasties of the Titans. Zeus he was the god of the heaven and the air.
Zeus and His FamilyZeus was the son of Rhea and Cronus. Zeus had a daughter named Artimes. She was the goddess of the moon. Zeus also had two brothers named Haides and Poseidon. Cronus was the King of Titans and ate all of Zeus's family but Cronus did not eat Zeus and his mom. this is because Rhea his wife gave Cronus a rock instead of Zeus. So Zeus and his mom and of course Cronus were the only ones of his family that lived. So Zeus went to a new family. His new family were gentle nymphs( people that could change into different things) and was also nursed by a goat that would pour ambrosia and nectar. This is what the gods ate. Zeus grew very quickly and in no time he was a new god. Zeus was very strong he was even stronger than his own dad. To show nymphs how much he wanted to thank them he gave the nymphs the horns of the goat because Zeus took the goat with them. Zeus had 12 children and many wives. Hera was the wife he spent the most time with. The first wife he had was a titan’s daughter, Metis. Zeus needed her help for the good advice. Metis went to trick Cronus to eat a magic herb. He thought the magic herb would make him unconquerable. Instead this magic made him very sick that every thing he ate came up including the gods, Haides and Poseidon and the goddess Hestia, Demeter, and Hera, all mighty gods who right away joined forces with Zeus. Cronus finally new it was time to surrender his powers and he fled. |
