IntroductionDo you know how and why the wonders were picked? Well I’ll tell you why and how. The Seven Wonders of the Ancient World is a list of noticeable objects in the world. The list was made in ancient times. Greeks and Romans made a list of things that travelers could see. They were all made by humans and were considered noticeable by their size and some other extraordinary qualities. Why did the Greeks pick seven? In the ancient world, the number seven ment perfection or complexion, the sum of three and four, even and odd, boys and girls. It symbolized cosmic wholeness. Although the lists changed a lot over time, the selections always added up to seven.
So why weren’t other things picked picked as ancient wonders. They were great. The Great Wall of China was constructed by the ancient Chinese to keep out invaders from central Aisa. It extends about 4,000 miles across northern China. That is one big wall. Another wonder that wasn’t picked is the Machu Picchu (MAH choo PEEK choo). It is the site of an ancient city about 50 miles northwest of Cosco, Peru. The stone structures which are the ruins of Machu Picchu stand on a mountain about 8,000 miles high. In 1911 Hiram Binghan discovered the ruins. Many people thought that The Great Wall of China, the Machu Picchu, and the Aztec Temple should have been included on the list of Ancient Wonders. But the reason they weren’t picked was because they didn’t know about them and other great things. When the Greeks first proposed the list they never saw The Great Wall of China and the Greeks didn’t even know about South America and didn’t even know if it excised.
