What is the Golden Gate Bridge
The Golden Gate Bridge is 9,981 feet long. That is about 33 baseball fields
long. It connects to California and the Peninsula of San Francisco. There are
towers on each side of the bridge they are 4,200 feet apart from each other.
These two Towers hold up steel cables that hold the Bridge up. On the Golden
Gate Bridge there is six lanes and two sidewalks. Engineers completed the Golden
Gate Bridge in 1937. The Golden Gate Bridge is one of the longest suspension
bridges in the world.

What Is a Suspension Bridge
A bridge is used for people and vehicles so they can get across lakes,
rivers, and canyons. Without the bridges people would have to drive through or
around canyons and use boats to cross the river or lake. It would take much
longer than having to simply drive over a bridge.
