Ulysses Grant was a major Civil War General. He was also the 18th president of the United States of America.
Grants Success During the Civil WarGrant was one of the most successful Union officers of the Union army of the American Civil War. Because of his success, Fort Henry and Donelson. Were the union armies first major victories of the American Civil War. He also defeated John C. Pembrant. He did this on May 16-17 when Grant won the Battle of Vicksburg. He also proved his success at the battle of Shiloh. Because of Grants success, Henery W. Hallek was put from General Chief to Chief of Staff to make room for Grant as General Chief.
Grant the Prior Slave OwnerGrant was a prior slave owner before the Civil War. He had a chance to sell his slave for $1,ooo. But instead of selling him to slavery he freed his slave. He no longer was made do all his work for free.
Grants Theory of WarGrants exact words of his theory of war were "Find out where your enemy is. Get at him as soon as you can. Strike at him as hard and often as you can and keep moving on."
ConclusionDon’t you think Grant had to be strong? It must have been very difficult to command the entire Union Army of the Civil War. To tell them an order and have them gang up because they do not agree. How would you get the union army to listen to you? |
