The Man Who Stood His GroundThomas Jackson went to serve in a Mexican war with Jackson’s success he resigned from the military to teach at the Confederate army in 1861. Jackson got his nickname in the first Manassas. In Jackson’s first year his battlefield was affective. But later in that year in the second Manassas, Antietam and Fredericksburg the southern had success.
Why He Was ImportantThomas Jackson was important to the civil war because he stood his ground for the South and he was one of the most dependent general for the South.
Jackson's Theory of WarJackson said in his exact words that "the battle was touched and goes depending on how fast reinforcements reached either side."
How He Got the Name StonewallGeneral Barnard E. Bee saw Jackson standing straight and tall and preparing to fight and said, "Look there's Jackson standing like a stonewall." From that, he got his nickname stonewall.
Jackson's Last DaysChancellorsville was Jackson's last battle because he was shot by one of his own men accidentally. He was only shot in the arm but he died believe it or not. He died on May 10,1864. |
