Chancellorsville was important because a real dependent general for the South was shot Stonewall Jackson in the arm by one of his own men. The commanders were hooker and Jackson’s commander was Lee. In 1863 hooker's army doubled with 120,000 men and Lee had only 60,000. Lee still held his defensive line. Hooker sent a group of soldiers through the back door of the battlefield. Hooker was now completely on defense from Lee's army. Hooker had already lost 17,000 men. His own men wounded one of Lee's generals. One day later confederates captured Hazel Groove and 30 pieces of artillery. Marching west from Fredericksburg were 19,000 federal troops. With no doubt that Lee wouldn’t dived his army. By May 5, Hooker had his entire force were going North. The biggest loss for Lee was when general Jackson was shot accidentally by one of his own menthe died on may 10, he was one of the most dependent generals on the South.
