Khafre, also known as Chephren, ruled Egypt from 2520 - 2494 BC. He was the son of Khufu, the pharaoh that built the Great Pyramid at Giza.
As pharaoh, Khafre was known for building statues. He built the Great Sphinx at Giza. In fact, the head of the half-man, half-lion figure looks like Khafre’s. Being the son of Khufu, Khafre used his building gene to build a pyramid at Giza himself. This pyramid was called the Chephren Pyramid. It was built between 2558 BC and 2532 BC. The Chephren Pyramid looks taller than the Great Pyramid because the Chephren Pyramid was built on higher ground than the Great Pyramid.
