Introduction

Welcome to Re-Invent the Past: Famous Inventions.  Have you ever wondered what life would be like without the telephone, car, and electricity?  It would be very hard to go about our lives without those important inventions!  Here, you can find out about the people who created these inventions, how they made them, and how they have changed over the years.

Many of the inventions we take for granted today are shown in the picture below.  You can click on any one of them to learn who dreamed it up, how it was made, and how it has changed over the years.  There's a bike similar to ones built by Wilbur and Orville Wright.  That thing in the upper left corner that looks like a stapler is actually a phonograph.  Click on it to find out how people listened to music 100 years ago!  There's the telephone, the airplane, and the assembly line.  Have you ever wondered how a light bulb works or who discovered the electricity that powers one?  Explore these inventions and discoveries and more by simply clicking on a part of the picture below that interests you.

If you would rather learn more about the inventors before you learn about what they invented, scroll past the picture to the set of links at the bottom of the page.  You can read about great inventors like Benjamin Franklin, Alexander Graham Bell, George Eastman, Thomas Edison, and Henry Ford.  If you ever wondered what it would be like to be first person to to fly in an airplane, we recommend you start with the Wright Brothers.  Following the links below, you can learn all about these inventors' lives and go on to read about their most famous inventions, too.

You can also use the links below to test your knowledge on the inventors and inventions in our quiz and cross word puzzle.  The links can also help you learn about the creators of this website, our bibliography, who helped make this site possible, and how to contact us.

Here's that picture we were talking about!  Go ahead and click on any invention you would like to learn about.  Once you're done, continue to explore our site on you own or click on the light bulb  in the bottom right corner of the page to come back here.  The light bulb is on every page and it looks just like this:  .
