One of the most famous families of gods is the family of Geb and Nut. Geb and Nut are very important in the Ancient Egyptians’ mythology. Geb is the god of the earth and Nut is the goddess of the daytime sky. Their children are Osiris, the underworld god; Isis the devoted mother and wife goddess; Seth the god of storms and disorder; and Nephthes the unlucky goddess. As soon as Osiris, Isis, Nephthes, and Seth all grew up, Osiris and Isis got married to each other even though they were brother and sister. Nephthes and Seth got married to each other, too.
A few years later Seth got jealous about his brother Osiris being the underworld god. That night Seth threw a big party. At the party there was a beautiful chest. Seth promised that whoever could fit in the chest could keep it, but Seth made sure it would only fit Osiris. That night when Osiris tried it, Seth slammed it shut and nailed it shut tightly. Then he threw it into the Nile River to be swept away. Isis was heart broken and immediately set off to find him. Isis told her sister what had happened, so they both wanted to find her husband. Seth found the chest first and got Osiris. He tore apart Osiris’ body parts. He tore apart his arms and legs, head, and brain. He put them all in different places.
Isis went to look for every part of Osiris' body so she could put his body parts together. After she put them together she made him alive and was happy. Nephthes got mad at Seth because he locked his own brother in a chest and tried to kill him. They got into a huge fight and never spoke to each other or saw each other again. | ||||||
