The Middle Kingdom began about 2050 B.C. During the Middle Kingdom, Egypt covered the tan area on the map below. Thebes became a little town on the Nile River in the upper part of Egypt.
The pharaohs of the Middle Kingdom built a huge waterworks in the kingdoms. They sent ships with goods across the sea to the other lands. They got gold and silver from these places. They got copper from a land named Sinai. This helped with the making of the biggest temple of all time, which was the temple of Amon built at El Karnak. After 200 years, Egypt got into something almost like mid-evil ages. Around 1800 BC they had lost against other countries in several wars. The Egyptians, fighting on their bare feet, were no match for them. When the Egyptians learned new strategies of warfare, the King Kamouse began a famous war for freedom that only the Egyptians like to remember. |
