Anubis

Anubis was another one of the gods of the town Heliopolis.  Early in Egyptian history, Anubis was a god of the dead.  Osiris took over this role as he rose in popularity.  Anubis’ symbol was a black and white ox-hide splattered with blood and hanging from a pole.  Its meaning is unknown.  Anubis had three important jobs.  He supervised the embalming of bodies to make them into mummies.  Most importantly though, Anubis monitored the scales of truth to protect the dead from lies and death forever.  When shown as a falcon-headed man, wearing the double crown, he carries a falcon-headed staff, the weapon he used to defeat Seth.
