Venus is the second closest planet to the sun. Venus is about one hundred and eight million kilometers (sixty seven million miles ) from the sun. The temperature, which can reach four hundred and seventy degrees Fahrenheit, can melt lead. If you ever traveled to Venus, you would be faced with instant death because of the heat. Venus is also the brightest planet in the solar system. Venus has said to be Earth's sister because of their similarities. They are very similar size and they look alike. The diameter of Venus is about twelve thousand, one hundred kilometers ( seven thousand, five hundred and twenty miles) . Experts say that Venus once had oceans. Now Venus doesn't have any water. The reason it probably lost all the water was because of the extreme heat. Venus has a thick and highly reflective cloud layer that hides the planet's surface. This causes very high surface temperatures and pressure. The atmosphere on Venus is mainly made up of carbon-dioxide. In fact, ninety percent of the atmosphere is made of it. It also contains three point five percent of nitrogen. Less than one percent is made up of carbon monoxide, argon, sulfur dioxide, and water vapor. |
