Neptune

Neptune is one of the two planets that is not able to be seen with a telescope.

Neptune was named after the Roman sea god. Two thirds of Neptune is composed of molten rock, water, liquid ammonia, and methane. Methane is what gives Neptune it's blue color. Neptune has dark spots. The largest spot on Neptune is called "The Great Dark Spot". "The Great Dark Spot" is about the size of Earth.

Neptune has many clouds. These clouds are like the puffy, cirrus clouds on Earth. Neptune holds the record for the strongest winds. These winds rise up to one-thousand two hundred miles per hour. (WOW!)

Neptune has four narrow sets of rings. These sets are made up of dust particles. The sets were formed by little meteorites crashing into the planet's moons. It has eight moons. The names of Neptune's moons are Despina, Galeta, Larissa, Naiad, Nereid, Proteus, Thalessa, and Triton.

Neptune's magnetic field is tilted at a forty-seven degree arch. Neptune orbits around the Sun in an oval-shaped orbit. It's about three billion miles away from the Sun. The diameter of Neptune is about thirty thousand, five hundred miles (forty-nine thousand, one hundred kilometers). It's about seventeen times as heavy as Earth.
