* Prehistoric Paintings*

A prehistoric painting project

In life there are many different paintings.  There are old ones and new ones.  There are some paintings that are thousands of years old.   These are not ordinary paintings, they are cave paintings.

Cave paintings were drawn by cave people.  They mostly drew animals that they were going to hunt, like bison, horses, stags and rhinos.  If you go in a cave, you might not find a cave painting, but you might.

The prehistoric people used soil and rocks to make red, black, yellow and white color paints.  They crushed them into powder and then they added water from the cave.

Since they didn't have brushes to use, they would use their fingers or animal hair, twigs, feathers or they used rocks.  They used tallow (animal fat) lamps to see inside the cave while they painted.

The artists that made cave paintings were very skilled.  The good thing about them is that they never wiped or smeared out their paintings.  When they painted, they would use cracks and bumps in the wall to shape the animals or whatever they were drawing.
