Masks have been used by many people in history.

People have used masks for protection from evil spirits, dances and to show who they were. Sometimes the mask showed that the person was in a special club or society.

Masks are made from many different materials. Sometimes parts of animals were used, such as bones, fur and ivory. Masks have been made out of heavy materials such as wood and metal. Some masks were decorated with hair, feathers and beads.
