                                                DESCRIPTION

                         The lion is the most famous of all wild animals. Throughout the world, many people look up to them as brave and very smart. And with his long mane and loud, scary, roar, The male lion is usually called the, "King of beasts" Its truly greatness. Lions are cats, like tigers and leopards and pet cats that are small, cute, and fuzzy! Lions have a sturdy, muscular body, completly short legs, and large powerful paws. Male lions may reach 14 feet from nose to tail-tip. They can weigh as much as 550 pounds. Lionesses which are female lions are smaller. They may grow to a maximum of 12 feet long. Lions are the only wild cat that has a big, dark bunch of hairs at the end of their tail. A lions coat varies in color from light sandy yellow, to a golden tawny brown on the back, and sides, and lighter, almost white, on the chest and belly.
 
 
 
 
                                                                HUNTING!

Lionesses hunt in teams to bring down large animals, like the Buffalo. They approach their prey at an action moving fast to cut off escape routs, until they are within 30 meters.At this point the hunters charge a successful charge. About one in four animals get killed, one lioness bites the downed animal on the throat or the mouth, suffocating the animal. Males rarely participate in the hunt, but their size enables to the muscles into the feeding circle. The feeding circle is where the Lions, Lioness, and Cubs eat their breakfast, lunch, and dinner. The males and females get to eat most of the food, the cubs eat whatever is left over. 1 out of 10 cubs die from starvation.
 

 KING OF THE BEASTS!
                Adult male lions can be as much as 508 cm larger than females, but it is to other males that must appear threatening. Their manes make them appear bigger, without adding expensive weight. If a smaller male realizes that he is a disadvantage, a confrontation may end without a fight. In the event of an attack the mane also serves to snag or cushion the impact of an opponents claws and teeth. Although lions are now protected from sport hunting they are increasingly threatened by the disappearance of land and food as humans approach upon their Habitat. 
 

                                                                   LION SOCIETY!
 
                         Lions, the most social fields live in prides composed of 4-12 adult males sub rides or companionship, exist within the pride. The size of these subgroups dispense the abundance of both prey and competing predators in the area.                                                                             

LIONS LIVING!
 
                Most of the lions live alone. Lions are different. They live in groups which are called prides and are the only social cats. 40 members can be in a pride, with six adult males, and about four to twelve females with there cubs. The adult females in a pride are usually related to each other. The adult may also be related to each other, but never related to the females. They do not stay in one pride for their whole life, but move from pride to pride. Each pride has it's own territory. Territories vary in size.
 
 

                                    BREEDING!
 

    Once a female lion is ready to mate with the male they are left together undisturbed.   Lionesses have cubs every two years. Before birth she choses a place to live, which must be well hidden, it also has to be close to the water. She gives birth up to five lion cubs, the least she can have is one. The cubs are blind when they are born and weigh at least four pounds. The first six months the mother feeds her babies milk, which makes the cubs grow faster.
