MATERIALS &
PROCEDURES
Hypothesis: My hypothesis was to see how different the explosions would be for a baking soda and vinegar volcano if the amount of vinegar was different for two tests.
Controls: Same volcano and same amount of baking soda.
Variable: Different amounts of vinegar.
Test 1
1. Lay the pie plate on a flat area.
2. Put the soup can in the middle of the pie plate.
3. Put your clay around your soup can to make a hill.
4. Let the clay hang off of the top of the soup can but don't cover the hole at the top of the soup can.
5. Put one and a half cups of Baking Soda into the soup can.
6. Pour a half a cup of vinegar into the soup can.
Materials: 8 ounces of Vinegar, 12 ounces of baking soda, clay that dries, a soup can, red food coloring, a pie plate, a half cup
Test 2
Test 2 is almost exactly the same as test 1. Just make sure you have the correct materials from test 1 and follow procedures.
1. Clean out your volcano if you already haven't by rinsing it out with water.
2. Make sure your volcano is dry before you start your experiment.
3. After your volcano is dry, put one and a half cups of Baking Soda into your volcano.
4. Pour one cup in of Vinegar into your volcano.
Make observations and compare what happened during each test.
