The safety pin in both water and salt water rusted. The safety pin in just water rusted first in 12 hours. The safety pin in salt water rusted in 24 hours. The tin can lid in water rusted in a little over 24 hours. The tin can lid in salt water rusted in 36 hours. The rest of the materials didn't rust. This experiment lasted for a week.
In conclusion, not all metals rust in water. If a metal does rust in water, it rusted faster in tap water than salt water. I thought it would be the other way around but science has proved me wrong.
