Tropical Sturgeon

This fish may not be a sturgeon, but it gets as big as one. With a max length of thirteen ft. this fish is probably the longest tropical aquarium fish. Its long body is like an alligator head put on a clown knifefish's head. These are VERY powerful jumpers and swimmers.

Tank setup

With this fish you need an extremely big tank. This fish needs such a large tank it is mostly only kept by public aquariums. Most aquarists  that try to keep these fish give them away because of what size they grow to. Arapaimas spend most of their time cruising the top layers of the tank looking for food. Knowing that these fish are jumpers there needs to be a tank lid.

Feeding

In their natural habitat of the Amazon basin they leap out of the water to catch small animals and birds on low branches. In the aquarium it is suggested that you feed these fish beef heart, large live fish, or a meaty food.. You should also allow for periods of fasting each week.

Tank Mates

Idea tank mates would be other large catfish, large fish like pacus, and any thing that isn't a top layer fish and a small one.
