So, you want to be a doctor? Oh cool that sounds like a book title! Well, back to subject. If you want to be a doctor, than you have come to the right place. Come on and we'll figure out how you can make this dream a real-life career!

As you might not know, there is more to being a physician than stethoscopes and x-rays. It requires work, commitment, and mental and emotional will power. Now, the first priority is what kind of practice you are going to work in.

You could work in an independent or private practice, in your own clinic or office. This is the way most doctors choose to go. You might already know this if you go to a regular clinic, or if you know any doctors. This means you would have to work for yourself. This would almost be like a small business, only in healthcare, and you're not selling products, you're selling care. This would require special certification.

Another kind of practice is for a health care organization. This would mix the business and medical fields. Now that's interesting! This would include working for a large corporation and they handle all of the guesswork and business, while you see and treat the patients they have lined up for you. This is mostly what you would do if you worked for a chain of clinics or a hospital.

Last but not least is the University medical field. This requires you to divide your time with three different fields. You would research and teach future doctors, see patients, and also do some guesswork and business tasks.

Now, we get to the really cool stuff. This is were you decide if you are going to specialize in a certain category such as internal medicine, cardiology, oncology, gynecology, sports medicine, neurology, and so on. Your other choice is to work generally, as a pediatrician and family doctor. Both are very rewarding.

This sounds great doesn't it? But, let's get down to it, everything costs something including a great career like this. This is what a call a job with some major requirements. When you enroll in college, you must start what's called a pre-med. program. You must also volunteer medical work at a hospital or clinic. Once you finish regular college, and you pass many tests, you get to go to medical school. This four-year program includes book work, two years of classrooms and tests, and two years volunteering in a clinical environment.

There are also some other jobs like this that you might wan to take a look at. They are biochemists, biologists, hospital administrators, medical terminologists, nurses, and veterinarians. You can find more information on these careers by checking other pages on this website, or checking your local doctors office.

So now that you know how to do it, go and make your dream of being a doctor come true!
