Counseling

Well, we have yet another exciting career in the field education. How about school counseling? It's a pretty cool job! Let's take another adventure through education!

Well, while we are on the subject, let's find out what a school counselor does. Well, according to Mary Louise Wright, a teacher of this vocation at North Whitfield Middle School in Dalton, Ga. A counselor spends their time working with students, staff, and parents. They also have to cooperate with community agencies and services.

To get this job you have to have several degrees. You have to have a BA in Social Sciences, a MED in Middle Grades Guidance Counseling, and last but not least an DES in Middle Grades. All if these degrees combined enable a person to do this job. It teaches them to help solve problems and cooperate with students and other staff.

As do many other teachers, school counselors spend a lot of time at work. Mrs. Wright says that she normally spends at least 50 hours a week working. But, with this job there is a lot of work to do. Because of this, she says she could spend twice as much time working and still have just as much work to do.

Mrs. Wright says that this is a great career to have. She would recommend it to absolutely anyone who is interested in helping young people succeed. On to another career!
