Little House on the Prairie is a book that takes place in the mid 1800's. The main characters are Laura, Mary, Baby Carrie, Pa, and Jack, the bulldog. They all leave the Little House in the Big Woods in Winconsin to go west to 40 miles from Independence, Missouri. They build a house of logs, a well and a stable for the horses Pet and Patty and the colt. Pa bought windows for the house, a new plow, and built a floor, roof and fireplace. They planted a garden. They all got fever'n'ague and their neighbor, Mrs. Scott, took care of them. On Christmas the creek was high, but Mr. Edwards the neighbor, brought presents for them from Santa. There were Indian war cries every night. An Osage Indian stopped the war cries and stopped them from fighting the settlers. One day Mr. Edwards and Mr. Scott came and told them that the soldiers were going to make them all leave because they were in Indian territory. So they left all the new things behind and moved on.
