Royalty

Each person in medieval times was part of "The Feudal Ladder" which showed everybody's level. Laborers, peasants and servants were at the very bottom. On the second step was where the knights and clergy were and on the third was the lesser lords and archdeacons. On the fourth was the bishops and barons. And on the fifth and highest step was the king. The king lived in the main building of the castle. Dinner was served in one huge room and gold and silver plates were set up on a table called a "cup board". These plates were a symbol of his power. Hunting was a source of entertainment for nobility. Huge areas of land was set aside just to be royal hunting forests, where kings and noblemen could ride on their horses and hunt stags, boars, wolves, foxes and hares. Falcons who were trained to come back to their master's hand were also used. Hunting was thought to be good practice in case of war. For fun royalty would play chess and checkers. They would also play shinty which was like field hockey. Gambling games that uses cards and dice were also popular.
