Mission Dolores

Mission Dolores was built in 1776
The Indians would make adobe bricks
They were made with straw and blood
they would squish it together in the mud

In the morning the Indians would eat breakfast
they would have Atole which they had to test
After church they would eat some lunch
Of the the same Atole which they don't have to crunch

In church you would see many Indians
They would learn many hymns
They would think of many thoughts
And do as they were taught

If you tried to escape
You would be turned in and treated 2nd rate
When you got caught you would be beat
You wouldn't even be able to eat!

The church bells hang in niches, not in a tower
When the bells are rung they sound loud with power
Mission Dolores has never been restored
The people who go there never get bored

Mission San Jose

Mission San Jose was built in 1797
To make the Indians believe in heaven
It's made of mostly wood
They would make it of adobe if they could

The day it was built was a great day
It was built in Fremont not San Jose
The exact day was the 11th of June
When it was a night of a waxing moon

The bell tower was so high
That is were the birds would get ready to fly
The sun made the tower gleam
The tower bounced of sun beams

Food that they ate
Wasn't so great
Maybe you'd like the food
It would for sure change your mood

Mission San Jose is pretty neat
But not on your feet
It's located near a bay
I hope you get to see it some day

Santa Inés

Soon the Spanish decided there should be,
One more mission for all to see.

And so after the eighteenth there came yet one more,
Which was Santa Ines in 1804.

It had a campanario, by which all three bells rang,
It called the Indians to their chores as the women sang.

And in the mission that was nice and cool,
Filtered out the fierce heat that was very cruel.

And there the padres taught the Indians Spanish and Christianity,
And then the Indians would look outside and whish that they were free.

Then out in the fields and Indian daughter,
Brought a man honey vinegar water.

Santa Ines is famous for it's fine saddles made by the Indians with time and care,
And even though the Indians worked so hard the padres didn't dare.

At breakfast, lunch and dinner they ate atole,
And sometimes ate pozzole,

For atole they grinned wheat,
And sometimes added veggies and meat.

Saint Agnes a pretty lady,
But I really wish this mission were named for me.

And of course this mission is still here for curious people to see
Just like people like you and me.
