Special Feature: Mission house 87 feet long and doesn't have a bell tower. Instead, it has 4 small bells.

Mission San Rafael Arcangel was founded December 14, 1817, by Father Vincente De Sarria. It is the 20th Mission. Unlike other missions, its first building was not a church. There was, although, a hospital. The Hospital was 87ft. long and 42 feet wide. Hospital is plain with a porch.

Mission San Rafael Arcangel was made with adobe bricks. The mission has no bell tower or bell wall. There is a cemetery there. Mission San Rafael also has a kitchen and storerooms. You would get there if you went 15 miles north of San Francisco. The mission church had star shaped windows. The church had a thatched roof. The mission has three bells. There was also a Friars Quarters.

Mission san Rafael Arcangel was abandoned on 1842. Also in 1842, the church was sold to a carpenter. A new gothic church was built in 1869.
