"A magician is an actor playing the part of a magician." -Jean-Eugene Robert- Houdin
Do you know the history of magic? If you don't, here is some information about it. It is amazing where it started and where it is today.

They say that magic began with the Egyptians, in 1700 BC. The illusionist named Dedi of Dedsnefu would show tricks to the pharaoh.  He was also known to entertain the slaves who built the pyramids. He performed the 'Cups and Balls' trick which magicians all over the world still perform.

The ancient Greeks and Romans were fascinated at the idea of magic. The art of deception was one of their main interests. Magic devices were built into temples by the priests. These devices were able to make doors open alone and wine flow magically out of statue's mouths. The priests did this to make sure the people thought they were powerful.

Magic wasn't accepted before the 1800's. Magicians were thought of as 'freaks of nature' and were only aloud to perform in a circus. Finally, in the 19th century, magician Robert Houdin came along and changed peoples' views about magic. Because of Robert Houdin, many magicians were able to add Dr. or MD to their names, too.

Today magic is greatly different. Magicians try to find new ways to show their practiced skills. Magic is now entertainment for families all around the globe.
