Team 18 Presents... Everything I Know About Science I Learned From Science Fiction

N a v i g a t i o n
The technology behind the laser weapons pictured in so many science fiction series.
Is there other intelligent life in the universe? Team18 tries to answer this question, as well as debating what kind of technology they might have, what they might look like, and more. Then they look at it from the perspectives of our different science fiction series.
The technology behind the faster than light drives in science fiction series.
What power source will we have in the future? Will it be atomic, solar, or will we scoop energy out of the very fabric of space itself?
What will our future be like? Here Team 18 explores all the possible futures that each science fiction series offers.
Here you can find out about the technology behind robots and robotics, as well as the probability of things like AI (Artificial Intelligence), speech recognition, and artificial personalities.

Robots - Dune

Many years before the Dune series takes place, the Butlerian jihad swept across the galaxy, exterminating any machines formed in the likeness of a human's mind. But on one planet, called Ix, the remnants of the forbidden science and technology remained. During the reign of the God Emperor Leto II, Ixian machines gained a wider acceptance as long as they did not obviously imitate the mind of a human. Robots are forbidden, but devices such as electronic journals or spy-eyes are not. They have not yet acheived personal computers, although miniature ones are used inside certain devices. Ix is not interested in making technological advances. Rather, they are trying to use the devices already available and manufacture them. Since general scientific study is not allowed, the Ixians cannot produce sophisticated devices. Will the ban against machines ever be repealed? So far, no.

Interesting fact: Ix is actually a number in a forgotten language. Can you guess what that is? Heres a hint, V, VI, VII, VIII, IX.
