Team 18 Presents... Everything I Know About Science I Learned From Science Fiction

N a v i g a t i o n
The technology behind the laser weapons pictured in so many science fiction series.
Is there other intelligent life in the universe? Team18 tries to answer this question, as well as debating what kind of technology they might have, what they might look like, and more. Then they look at it from the perspectives of our different science fiction series.
The technology behind the faster than light drives in science fiction series.
What power source will we have in the future? Will it be atomic, solar, or will we scoop energy out of the very fabric of space itself?
What will our future be like? Here Team 18 explores all the possible futures that each science fiction series offers.
Here you can find out about the technology behind robots and robotics, as well as the probability of things like AI (Artificial Intelligence), speech recognition, and artificial personalities.

Power Sources - Foundation

Foundation is the series that brought the whole idea of adding a "Power Sources" topic to this web site. Technology is a major focus in Foundation and, since Asimov is trying to be as realistic as possible, he explains a lot about how this technology works.

The galaxy is falling into ruin. Disregard is being paid to any technological advances whatsoever. Some people have even gone back to using fossil fuels (heaven forbid!) even though the superior energy source of atomic power is available. One man, Hari Seldon, sees this decay and forms a new civilization out at the edges of the galaxy called The Foundation. They specialize in making technological advances and miniaturizing the technology already available (kind of like Silicon Valley). They use atomic energy as their main power source for everything and are able to fit powerful atomic generators in devices the size of a walnut.

In the last two books of the series the main characters travel around in a ship that makes use of antigravity and scoops energy from space itself. Pretty cool, huh?
