Team 18 Presents... Everything I Know About Science I Learned From Science Fiction

N a v i g a t i o n
The technology behind the laser weapons pictured in so many science fiction series.
Is there other intelligent life in the universe? Team18 tries to answer this question, as well as debating what kind of technology they might have, what they might look like, and more. Then they look at it from the perspectives of our different science fiction series.
The technology behind the faster than light drives in science fiction series.
What power source will we have in the future? Will it be atomic, solar, or will we scoop energy out of the very fabric of space itself?
What will our future be like? Here Team 18 explores all the possible futures that each science fiction series offers.
Here you can find out about the technology behind robots and robotics, as well as the probability of things like AI (Artificial Intelligence), speech recognition, and artificial personalities.

The Future - Foundation

Foundation takes place in the future of our galaxy. Humankind has colonized the stars, spreading everywhere in the galaxy. Earth has become forgotten, and some say it is radioactive. The future of our galaxy, according to Asimov, starts with the robot novels, then goes on to the galactic empire novels, and, finally, in the Foundation series. They are all very interesting series, and each one is interconnected to the other (for a complete listing go to The Imperial Library and Bookstore). What comes after Foundation and Earth (the last book in the series), is unknown and will probably never be chronicled, since Isaac Asimov has died. However, it looks like Gaia will make the galaxy into Galaxia, turning the human race into one massmind. The reason for this is that if aliens come from another galaxy, they will try to turn humans against each other. If humans are a massmind, this is impossible. But Asimov leaves us with a chilling note on the last line of Foundation and Earth:

"In all of human history, no other intelligence has impinged on us, to our knowledge. This need only continue a few more centuries, perhaps a little more than one ten thousandth of the time civilization has already existed, and we will be safe. After all," And here Trevize felt a sudden twinge of trouble, which he forced himself to disregard, "it is not as though we had the enemy already here among us."

And he did not look down to meet the brooding eyes of Fallom -- hermaphroditic, transductive, different -- as they rested, unfathomably, on him.
