        Washington's capital is Olympia. Its population is 5,017,724. The nickname is "The Chinook State" or "Evergreen State," which comes from the many vast forests and giant firs and hemlocks. The motto is "Alki," which means by and by in Indian language. The bird is the willow goldfinch and the tree is the western hemlock. Their state flower is the rhododendron. It is geographically located near Canada and Alaska. Washington is the only state named after a president, George Washington.
