Rhode Island

         The capital of Rhode Island is Providence. The population is 1,004,328. The area is about 1,212 sq. miles, ranking it 50th in state size. The state bird is the Rhode Island Red and the state motto is Hope. The state tree is the red maple and the state flower is the violet. The song they sing is  Rhode Island. The name Rhode Island comes from the Greek island of Rhodes.  Roger Williams, a Puritan, founded the colony of Providence.
