        The capital of Michigan is Lansing. The state flower of Michigan is the apple blossom. The state tree is the white pine. The state bird is the robin. Michigan's nicknames are "The Water Wonderland" and "The Wolverine State." Michigan was admitted to the Union on January 26, 1837.  It was the 26th state.  The land area of Michigan is 56,817 square miles (147,156 square kilometers). The total area of Michigan is 58,216 square miles (150,779 square kilometers). The world's largest front porch is located on the Grand Hotel in Mackinaw Island, Michigan.
