        The capitol of Iowa is Des Moines. The state flower is the wild rose. The Iowa state bird is the Eastern Goldfinch. The state tree is the Oak. The state nickname is the "Corn State." It was admitted to the Union in 1846. It was the 29th state. The land area is 55,491 square miles (144,887 square kilometers.). The population is 2,776,755. The University of Iowa in Iowa City has one of the largest bagpipe bands in the world. The world's largest coffee pot is located in Stanton, Iowa.  (It is a painted water tower.) A hobo convention is held in Britt, Iowa. A King and Queen of the hoboes are chosen every year.
