Indiana

The capital of Indiana is Indianapolis. The state flower of Indiana is the peony. The bird is the cardinal and the tree is the Tulip Tree. The name Indiana comes from the native word meaning "land of the Indians". The Mound Builders also settled here. The French and British fought for this land, with British victory in 1763.  During the Revolutionary War the Americans fought and won the land back.  Frequent Indian uprisings occurred here, finally ending in 1811 at William Henry Harrison's victory at Tippecanoe.  Native Americans remained a cultural force in the Midwest.  Indiana is the manufacturing capital of the US.
