        The capital of Florida is Tallahassee. The state flower is the orange blossom. Florida's state bird is the mockingbird. The state tree of Florida is the Sabal palmetto palm. Florida's nickname is the "Sunshine State." The state of Florida was admitted to the Union on March 3, 1845, the 27th state in the country. The land area of Florida is 54,090 square miles (140,093 square kilometers). The total area of Florida is 58,560 square miles (151,670 square kilometers). The population of the state of Florida as of 1990 was 12,937,926 people.

        You can watch fish through glass-bottomed boats near Ocala. The springs produce five hundred million gallons (approximately 2 billion liters) of water a day.  The only underwater state park in the United States is off Key Largo, Florida. In 1992, hurricane Andrew  hit Florida, Louisiana, and the Bahamas. In Florida it cost around $20.6 billion dollars, making it the worst hurricane ever to hit the state of Florida.
