Delaware

The capital of Delaware is Dover. The name Delaware comes from Delaware Bay and River, which were named for Thomas West, Lord De La Warr. Delaware was discovered by Henry Hudson for Dutch in 1609. It was settled then by Swedish settlers in 1638. The English didn't come till 1664.  The nickname of Delaware is "The First State."  The bird of the state is the Blue Hen. They mine sand, gravel, and magnesium. They also have fishing there. They fish for crab, clams, and deep sea marlins and tunas.

Delaware is located on the Atlantic coastline, and shares the Delmarva Peninsula with Virginia and Maryland. Pennsylvania is to the northwest of Delaware. Since Delaware is so close to the coastline, many people enjoy water-sports such as boating. Some attractions there are The Wilmington Museum of History, Cape Henlopen, and Trap Pond State Park.
