Colorado

        Colorado was officially named a state in the year 1876. It was named a state exactly one hundred (100) years after the United States became an independent country. Colorado's nickname is the Centennial State because it was named a state exactly 100 years after the country was named a country. The majestic peaks of Colorado stretch so high that is was named the mountain high state. More than 800 peaks rise above 10,000 feet tall, 50 of them reach over 14,000 feet. Pikes Peak is probably the most well known peak in Colorado.
