Gordon Gould invented the laser. He was born in 1920
in New York City. One Saturday night Gordon got the idea: "Light Amplification
by Stimulated Emission of Radiation" otherwise known as the laser. The
laser that is a light wave amplifier would be much more powerful than the
maser which amplifies microwaves. The reason is because one photon of light
has a hundred thousand times more energy than a microwave photon.
