The Underwater Wonder

What are Flying Fish? Flying Fish are fish with the name: Exocoetidae volitans (Exo-co-e-tie-day vol-li-tans)
Do they really fly? No.  Flying fish don't fly. They actually glide!
How far can they glide? Strong glides can go as much as 180 meters! Compound glides can cover 400 meters!!(That's 1,300feet!)
Why do they fly? They fly to escape predators. Sometimes they fly on to the decks of ships!
Are there different types of flying fish? Yes. They are all very different too. Some like the Exocoetus Volitans have only 2 wings. The California flying fish (Cypselurus californicus) have 4 wings.
