Aloha from Kapolei, Hawai'i. Our team is comprised of students from Kapolei Elementary and Kapolei Middle School. Our school is located on the leeward side of the island of O'ahu in the new city of Kapolei. We met everyday after school since November to work on this project. We chose to focus on values because we were hearing on the news a lot about the terrible things that kids and teenagers were doing like school shootings and stealing. We wondered why some of these things happened. We came up with several reasons such as boredom, hanging out with the wrong crowd, hatred, no guidance, and lack of values. We chose to focus on values for this project.
Reflection
We learned a lot about ourselves during the time it took us to
put this project together. We promised to practice what we preach
by displaying good values. It didn't always workout that way and
we realized that we weren't always able to live up to that level.
We often teased and quarreled with each other or with our brothers
and sisters at home. We realized that disagreements are okay as
long as we don't become negative (put-downs, violence) and are
able to come up with a solution to the problem. Unfortunately,
we all still have a problem when it comes to teasing. But we're
working on it.
Participating in this project was good for us. We learned a lot about values, claymation, creating web pages, and most importantly about ourselves. We know that the hardest times for us to make the right decisions is coming up in a few years when we become teenagers. That's why it's important for us to spread the news about values and making good choices for life.
I'm Kody.
I am in the 5th grade at Kapolei Elementary School. In my free
time I like to play soccer, baseball and play computer games.
For this project, I was one of the persons in charge of creating
the web pages, graphics and animation. Because of this project
I am more responsible and I have improved on my speaking ability.
Hi!
My name is Jacob. I'm 10 years old and in the 4th
grade. I was one of the main artists for the team. I made some
of the clay figures in You Make The Call. I also did most of the
drawings and created the animations. Besides playing on the computer,
I like to play baseball. I learned a lot about values. It helped
me become a better person. I still struggle a little bit at home
about making good choices.
Aloha ! My name is Chanell. I'm
in the 5th grade at Kapolei Elementary School. I am 10 years old.
I like to sing and dance (jazz, hip hop and hula) in my spare
time. I helped with the animation and worked on the research and
writing. I learned that values help you make good decisions. I
also learned that kids and adults have many obstacles in life
that we all have to face.
Hello,
I'm Shane. I am in the 6th grade at Kapolei Middle
School. I love to work on the computer during my free time. I
was co-captain for this project. It was my responsibility to make
sure everyone was on task. I helped put the web pages together
and linked everything up. I did a lot of the filming of the claymation
and Moral Combat segments. I learned that values help me to make
better choices. Sometimes I have trouble making good decisions
at home because I get tempted to do bad things like hitting my
brother.
Hi! My name is Bryson. I
am 12 years old. I go to Kapolei Middle School. I am in the 6th
grade. My hobbies are playing soccer, football, surfing, and playing
on the computer. I was co-captain of the team. I was responsible
for making sure that we kept to our deadlines. For the creation
of the webpage I helped to film the claymation and turned them
into Quicktime movies. I also helped to edit the Moral Combat
segments. I had to help and teach the others how to make and link
web pages. Working on this project was a good experience for me.
As a person, I think I became a little better. I still have trouble
making good decisions at home and when I am with my friends.
My name is Clinton. I'm 10 years
old. I'm in the 5th grade and I attend Kapolei Elementary School.
I like to play football, draw, and surf the internet. I did a
lot of the research, writing, and some of the artwork for this
project. I think I became a better person while working on this
project because I know more about values. I am more helpful and
cooperative than in the past. When I do struggle, it happens mostly
at school when kids tease me and I am tempted to tease them back.
Hi! My name is Lokahi. I am 10 years old
and in the 5th grade. I like to play basketball and play with
clay. For this project I was a model for the sections entitled
You Make the Call and Values. I had to stand still and move a
little at a time while the others on the team took pictures of
me. It wasn't easy to stay still. Sometimes I would fall over.
I'm glad I was able to be part of this team.
