
What's a Skyscraper?
Skyscrapers is a popular name for a very tall building. Anything that were unusually tall was given the name "Skyscraper." The first skyscrapers were only ten to twelve stories high. Today, skyscrapers, are up to at least fifty stories and even taller. Skyscrapers are built to be convienent and comfortable. They are important because the floors of usable space supplies offices and apartments. Land is very expensive in cities, so it is a lot cheaper to build up buildings that are taller and thinner. So the first skyscrapers were born in cities where thousands of people need work space that's cheap and convienent.
