Twistin' Twisters

Materials:

A 2-liter soda bottle. (Keep cap. Take any labels or plastic neck pieces off bottle.)

A grownup

Sink or basin

Procedure:

1. Fill 2-liter bottle about 2 /3 of the way.

2. Drill a hole in the cap about 1/4 "to 1/2 " diameter.

3. Put cap on bottle.

4. Turn bottle upside down and give bottle about 10 swirls.

5. Watch tornado appear after about 10 seconds.

Result:

Tornado appears in bottle and cyclones out bottom.

Why?

When the water leaves the bottom of the bottle, it pushes on the water still in the bottle and gives it its spin.
